Going Beyond the Brand: How to Make a Personal Connection with Your Ideal Clients

Brand Copy Tips, Websites

And >> PSA: YOU are your brand’s greatest asset.

Your service-based business is made up of a lot of different parts. There’s your service itself. Then there’s the sales, the marketing, the systems and processes, the client experience. So much goes into making your business work.

But the BIGGEST, most important asset of your business? Well, friend, that would be YOU.

YOU are the heart and soul of your business. YOU are the real human being behind your wonderful, transformational service. And  YOU are the face your clients see and the personality they’re drawn to.

That’s why it’s SO important to show yourself to your audience and your clients. Show them your face, your personality, your likes and dislikes, what lights you up, the passion and heart behind your business.

By showing your audience who you really are, you’ll be able to make the most authentic connections and attract clients who are the best fit for your business.

3 Ways to Make a Personal Connection with Your Audience

So, how can you show your audience the face behind your brand? Here are some ideas:

  • Brand photos! Don’t sleep on these, friend. If you’re a service provider, brand photos that show off your unique personality are an amazing way to connect with your clients.

    >> Tip: Brand photos aren’t just headshots. No way, jose! Brand photos showcase your personality, your interests, and your passion for your work. You might take them in your favorite coffee shop, in your office, or spots you hang out around town. Find yourself a brand photographer who’s committed to understanding you and your brand, who will help you create images that really show off who you are.

  • Show up online as YOU. By that I don’t just mean show up as your business. Show up as YOU, the person. Share your real story and struggles with your audience. Talk about things that aren’t necessarily always business related, so your audience sees you’re a person, not a robot. People want to buy from someone they know and trust. So let your audience get to know and trust you.

    >> Tip: “Getting vulnerable” with your audience doesn’t mean you have to share every deep dark secret about your life. It just means sharing enough about yourself that your audience feels a connection with you. Try sharing a social media post about a particular struggle you faced in growing your business, or an Instagram story of you ordering your favorite Starbucks drink. It doesn’t have to be totally profound! Just show yourself and make a connection.

  • Connect with your About page. The About page on your website is one of the most visited pages—and yet sometimes it’s the most neglected! This is a huge missed opportunity to connect with your potential clients. Write a killer About page that shows your audience who you are, how you relate to what they’re going through, and why you’d be a great fit for them!

    >> Tip: It’s fun to include little interesting tidbits about yourself on your About page, like your favorite coffee drink and what you do on a Friday night. But I suggest including that type of information toward the bottom of the page. The top sections of your About page should cover why you do what you do, how you relate to your clients, and how you can help them. Save the fun stuff for the end!
